In the result of the cooperation between the Center for Responsible Mining of American University of Armenia, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network, “Environmental Public Advocacy Center” NGO and Environmental Law Resource Center of the Faculty of Law, YSU on June 9 was organized a workshop on the topic "Public participation in environmental decision-making process: opportunities, challenges and practice”. The training was conducted in Alaverdi Aarhus Center.

The opening speech was delivered by Garen Nazarian - the  head of the Center for Responsible Mining of American University of Armenia. Afterwards the president of “EPAC” NGO and the head of “ELRC”, Aida Iskoyan introduced the role of effective public participation in environmental decision-making and its importance in the context of strengthening environmental democracy. Research fellows of “ ELRC” Heghine Hakhverdyan, Olympia Geghamyan and Laura Petrossiantz made presentations about the content, principles and implementation mechanisms of the public participation, as well as the legal basis and the practical application mechanisms of the access to environmental information instruments.

Among the participants were young activists, as well as students interested in environmental issues.

The event was covered by the local media "Ankyun 3" and "Hetq Alaverdi".
